Robed and stuck at home, Rufus Wainwright’s early pandemic experience was joyful for fans who got to see the pop-operatic singer-songwriter serve up tunes old and new, original and covers. Wainwright’s way with vocal and piano is such that he doesn’t really need a band or a string section (though he works well with both), and this tour finds him digging through nearly a quarter century of songs, including tunes from “Unfollow the Rules,” which got released in the summer of 2020, when touring was shut down. So this show should be a career-spanner and also one that trumpets “new” songs that few of us have had opportunity to hear live.
