There’s an extended chase scene through the streets of Malta in “Jurassic World Dominion" (opening Friday), the sixth and theoretically final film in a franchise whose story arc began with “Jurassic Park” nearly 30 years ago, that may be the single best piece of action filmmaking in the entire, six-film “Jurassic” franchise.

So it’s up to our heroes from “Jurassic” movies present and past — Owen, Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), Alan (Sam Neill), Ellie (Laura Dern), Ian (Jeff Goldblum), Maisie (DeWanda Wise), Barry (Omar Sy) and Maisie (Isabella Sermon) — to thwart his ambitions. How and why they all team up, and rekindle old flames, feels more like schmaltzy, let’s-get-the-band-back-together fan service and a way to keep the film from being just wall-to-wall dino attacks. And with all the exposition, “JWD” takes a while to get going. But, through it all, Goldblum and Wise do deliver a few good lines.

Colin Trevorrow (“Jurassic World,” “Safety Not Guaranteed”), directing from a script he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael from a story by Derek Connolly, keeps things moving quickly, especially in the film’s latter half but, at 146 minutes, it still feels long. (The franchise’s best film, Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,” clocks in at a comparatively breezy 127 minutes.)
